The Vice-rectorate of External Relations and Cooperation of Algiers 2 University organised on June 15th, 2023 a series of readings on History and Arabic and Islamic studies in Hungry”. The readings were presented by Dr. Kinga Maria Divini from Corvinus University of Budapes. The event took place in the conference room Moufdi Zakaria of Building D in Bouzaréah.
The event was inaugurated by the Vice-rector in charge of Post graduation and Scientific Research, Pr. Kamel Boumnir, in which he welcomed Dr. Kinga Maria Divini. He also touched on the importance of this event which falls within the framework of strengthening cooperation relations, especially in the framework of scientific research between Algeria and Hungary.
Dr. Kinga Maria Divini gave her lecture on “History of Arab and Islamic Studies in Hungary”, though which she focused on the Hungarians in prehistoric times and how they learned the Arabic language. She also talked about Ármin Vámbéry, whose knowledge of Islam and Turkish language and the local customs enabled him to work as a diplomat and mediator, while being a university professor let him enter into debate about the exact origin of the Hungarians and their language. His student Ignác Goldziher, the founder of European Islamic Organizations, had a speical interest in his relations with Algerian scholars due to his interest in the history of the history Islam in the Arab Maghreb and Andalusia.
A tribute was paid to Dr. Kinga Maria Divini at the end of the event by the Vice-rector of Post graduation Pr. Kamel Boumnir and, Pr. Salah Laboudi, the Vice-rector of Pedagogy.
