Algiers 2 University celebrated on Thursday, May 18, 2023, the National Student Day, commemorating the 67th anniversary of the students’ protest of May 19th, 1956.The event was attended by university officials, professors, students, as well as representatives of local authorities and security personnel. The celebration featured a rich and diverse program that included scientific, historical, cultural, and sports aspects.
The eventwas inaugurated with the hoisting of the national flag and the laying of a floral wreath, followed by the recitation of the “Fatiha” of the Holy Coran in honor of the martyrs at the university’s square.
The event was pursued in the main conference room, where the public visited the exhibition organized for the occasion. There, Professor Saïd Boumaïza, The Rector of the University, delivered a speech congratulating all the students on this occasion and praising the students’ role in raising awareness during the national revolution by organizing protests. He also emphasized the current role of students in the prosperity and development of Algeria.
The celebratory program also included a lecture by Professor SaoudiYasmina on the role played by students during the revolutionof national liberation. Additionally, there were singing performances by the university’ choir, a theatrical play presentedby students, as well as sports performances and a video display honoring the martyrTalebAbderrahmane.
An award ceremony for the winners ofthe national competitionsof sports, culture, and science, as well as those who participated in sports tournaments organized in celebration of Student Dayconcluded the event.
