International Conference on “The Role of African Kings in the Construction of the Universal Civilisation”

The Laboratory of African Studies of Algiers 2 University organized in the Grand-Auditorium on January 16th, 2020, the National Conference on “The Role of African Kings in the Construction of the Universal Civilisation”.

The Conference was opened by the Vice-rector in charge of Post Graduation and Scientific Research, Pr. El Hadj Aifa, through which he spoke about the creation of African kingdoms and the role of Islam in the spread of civilisation there, and the creation of Islamic kingdoms in the West of Africa, such as Ghana, Mali, Sangai and Sosso kingdoms, while showing how the colonialism exploited them.

For his part, Pr Moncef Bekkai, the Laboratory of African Studies Head, said that this subject almost got marginalised, especially that the colonialism intended to erase the cultures in the African societies like the Sub-Saharan Africa which stayed unknown until some orientalists wrote about the characteristics of these societies and the situation of Africa before the imperialism.

Pr. Abdelaziz Boukenna, the Dean of Human Sciences Faculty, made his speech through which he explained that Africa is the cradle of humanity according to a recent archaeological study, and gave the floor afterwards to Dr. Ghardaoui Noureddine, the History Department Head who spoke about the role of Arab-Muslim civilisation in the development of African kingdoms.

The main lines included in the program of this scientific event are as follow: “African kingdoms in West Africa”, “African kingdoms in the Great Lakes region and in Tropical Africa”, “African kingdoms in Southern Africa”.
