The Faculty of Social Sciences of Algiers University organized a lecture entitled “Crisis of civilization, Crisis of social link”, given by Pr Mustapha Cherif, in which he discussed the difference between civilization and modernity, highlighting the failure of modernity to produce civilization. He also presented two conflicting civilisational models: one centered on the individual and the other on the community, summarizing the criticisms directed at both and highlighting the importance of adopting a third way by linking between the two models.
The lecturer discussed the reality of the social link in Algerian society and the crisis of civilisation as a result of the interaction of several psychological, social and cultural factors, which affected the composition of the social system. He added that the rapid and qualitative shift in this composition has created a major crisis in the Algerian family.
The professor concluded his lecture while calling for the promotion of dialogue in the society in order to contain the Algerian individual, under the great changes that the society is going through.
